Importing and registering, in brief

  1. Routes in

Uganda is landlocked. Equipment usually comes from Mombasa (Kenya) by road or rail via Malaba or Busia, or from Dar es Salaam (Tanzania).

  2. Certificate before shipping

Many imports need a Certificate of Conformity before shipment under the PVoC programme of UNBS (Uganda National Bureau of Standards).

  3. Customs

Clearance is through the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). Most importers use a licensed clearing agent.

  4. Registering for road use

Machines used on public roads are registered with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).

General guidance only. Confirm with the official bodies or your clearing agent before you buy. Last checked October 2026.
