The equipment market in Uganda
Uganda's equipment market is growing with the Lake Albert oil fields, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline and new roads and power projects.
Farming is the largest employer and uses tractors, and mining for gold and building materials adds demand. Most dealers are in Kampala.
Importing and registering equipment in Uganda
Routes in
Uganda is landlocked. Equipment usually comes from Mombasa (Kenya) by road or rail via Malaba or Busia, or from Dar es Salaam (Tanzania).
Certificate before shipping
Many imports need a Certificate of Conformity before shipment under the PVoC programme of UNBS (Uganda National Bureau of Standards). Used goods are inspected before shipping.
Customs
Clearance is through the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). Most importers use a licensed clearing agent.
Registering for road use
Machines used on public roads are registered with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). Your dealer or a clearing agent can usually arrange this.
General guidance only. Rules change, so confirm with the official bodies or your clearing agent before you buy. Last checked October 2026.
