The equipment market in Egypt
Egypt is one of Africa's largest equipment markets, driven by large state-led construction: new cities such as the New Administrative Capital, roads, bridges and ports.
Quarrying, phosphate and gold mining and the Suez Canal economic zone add demand for earthmoving and lifting equipment. Farming in the Nile Delta and new reclaimed land uses many tractors and implements.
Importing and registering equipment in Egypt
Ports
Alexandria and Damietta on the Mediterranean, Port Said at the Suez Canal, and Sokhna on the Red Sea.
ACID before shipping
Every sea shipment needs an ACID number (Advance Cargo Information) registered by the Egyptian importer on the Nafeza platform before the goods are shipped. The overseas supplier must also be registered.
Customs
Clearance is through the Egyptian Customs Authority. Most importers use a licensed clearing agent.
Registering for road use
Machines used on public roads are registered with the traffic department of the governorate where the owner is based. Your dealer or a clearing agent can usually arrange this.
General guidance only. Rules change, so confirm with the official bodies or your clearing agent before you buy. Last checked October 2026.
