The equipment market in Zimbabwe

Main demand fromMiningFarmingConstruction

Mining drives Zimbabwe's heavy equipment market: platinum on the Great Dyke, gold, lithium and coal.

Commercial farming, including tobacco, maize and sugar in the Lowveld, is a large market for tractors. Most deals are priced in US dollars, and dealers are mainly in Harare and Bulawayo.

Importing and registering equipment in Zimbabwe

  1. Routes in

Zimbabwe is landlocked. Equipment usually comes from Durban through Beitbridge, or from Beira (Mozambique) through Forbes/Mutare.

  2. Customs

Clearance is through the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA). Most importers use a licensed clearing agent.

  3. Certificate before shipping

Some product categories need a Certificate of Conformity before shipment under the Consignment Based Conformity Assessment (CBCA) programme. Check with your dealer whether your machine is covered.

  4. Registering for road use

Machines used on public roads are registered with the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR). Your dealer or a clearing agent can usually arrange this.

General guidance only. Rules change, so confirm with the official bodies or your clearing agent before you buy. Last checked October 2026.
