The equipment market in Senegal
Senegal's economy is growing with new offshore oil and gas and big infrastructure such as the Diamniadio new town, motorways and a new deep-water port at Ndayane.
Phosphate and gold mining and irrigated farming in the Senegal River valley also use heavy equipment. Dakar's port is a gateway for Mali.
Importing and registering equipment in Senegal
Ports
Dakar is the main port; a new deep-water port at Ndayane is being built.
Cargo tracking note
Sea shipments need a cargo tracking note (BSC) issued before loading. Your freight forwarder normally arranges it.
Customs
Clearance is through Senegalese Customs (Douanes sénégalaises). Most importers use a licensed clearing agent.
Registering for road use
Machines used on public roads must be registered and plated with the national vehicle registration authority. Your dealer or a local clearing agent can usually arrange this.
General guidance only. Rules change, so confirm with the official bodies or your clearing agent before you buy. Last checked October 2026.
