The equipment market in Namibia

Main demand fromMiningConstructionFarming

Mining drives Namibia's heavy equipment market: uranium near Swakopmund, diamonds, gold and zinc, and new lithium projects.

Walvis Bay is a gateway for Zambia, Botswana and DR Congo, and offshore oil and green hydrogen projects are bringing new investment. Farming is mostly livestock.

Importing and registering equipment in Namibia

  1. Ports

Walvis Bay is the main port and a gateway for landlocked neighbours; Lüderitz is smaller.

  2. Customs

Clearance is through the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA). Most importers use a licensed clearing agent.

  3. Used machines

Namibia is in the Southern African Customs Union with South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini. Some used goods need an import permit; check with your dealer or clearing agent.

  4. Registering for road use

Machines used on public roads are registered with the Roads Authority (NaTIS). Your dealer or a clearing agent can usually arrange this.

General guidance only. Rules change, so confirm with the official bodies or your clearing agent before you buy. Last checked October 2026.
